Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the cook in all phases of food service: receiving, storage, food preparation, serving, cleaning and dishwashing.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Receive all donations and purchases from donors and drivers.

 

  1. Ensure that all food and non-food items are stored properly and safely.

 

  1. Use safe food handling practices in the preparation of all food.

 

  1. Provide clean and sanitized counters, cutting surfaces, utensils and dishes.

 

  1. Perform end of the day cleaning in the kitchen.

 

  1. Perform the duties of the cook in the cook’s absence.

 

  1. Adhere to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.

 

  1. Perform as a team member to assure that productivity outcome measures are achieved.

 

  1. Perform related functions necessary to support the mission and core values of Catholic Charities.
 
   

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job.

Education/Experience: to perform this job successfully, an individual must have a High School Diploma or a General Education Degree. Dishwashing experience and familiar with institutional cooking strongly preferred.

Certificates/Licenses: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a Food Handler’s Permit. Successfully pass background check applicable to position.

 

Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly sit, stand, climb, walk, hear/listen, talk
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds, pull/push, carry, grasp, reach, taste, smell
  • Occasionally crawl, kneel, stoop
  • Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness), ability to focus
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment

Workplace Environmental Conditions

 

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:

  • Noise Conditions: exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at quiet to moderate levels of sound dependent upon the activities
  • Heat: subject to high temperatures
  • Cold: exposed to low temperatures
  • Atmospheric Exposures: exposed to dusts, fumes, vapors, or mists
  • Client Population may include persons involved in gangs, with substance abuse concerns, homelessness and/or tendencies towards violent behavior.
