Job Summary

This position is primarily responsible for participating with other team members on stabilizing consumers in a permanent supportive housing environment by modeling positive community behavior, enforcing building rules and community standards, and fostering a sense of community in a permanent supportive housing environment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Maintains a safe environment at the Collins Apartments by enforcing building rules and guest policies and expectations, as well as responding to emergency situations.
  2. Fosters a sense of ownership in the Collins Apartments by the residents by assisting and encouraging residents to keep their units and building common areas in clean and sanitary conditions.
  3. Fosters a sense of community in the Collins Apartments by the residents by supporting community events and maintaining and supervising use of the community room and common areas.
  4. Participates in planning, provision, and evaluation of services via log entries, case notes, and attending staffings and meetings as appropriate.
  5. Assists individuals who choose to access medical, mental health, and chemical dependency service delivery systems by accessing and securing mainstream benefits.
  6. Adheres to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.
  7. Performs related functions necessary to support the mission and core values of Catholic Charities.

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job.

Education/Experience: to perform this job successfully, an individual must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and life experience successfully navigating recovery/social service systems that assist chemically dependent, homeless and/or disabled populations.

Certificates/Licenses: To perform this job successfully, the Collins Peer Navigator is encouraged to meet the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR)/Department of Health peer-counselor credentials or to complete certification within six months of employment. Successfully pass background check applicable to position.

 

Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly sit, stand, climb, walk, hear/listen, talk
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds, pull/push, carry, grasp, reach
  • Occasionally crawl, stoop, kneel
  • Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses, ability to focus

Workplace Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:

  • Noise Conditions: exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at moderate to loud levels of sound dependent upon the daily activities.
  • Client Population may include persons involved in gangs, with substance abuse concerns, homelessness and/or tendencies towards violent behavior.
